The Boat Race 2020

The Oxford - Cambridge Boat Race. The Thames Boat Race. The University Boat Race. The Boat Race. Call it what you will, the boating battle between the two constituent parts of Oxbridge is back. Both the men’s and women’s events are taking place on Sunday 29th March 2020, the former at 15.44, the latter at 16.44. Get down to the fan parks close to the Thames and cheer for your team, whoever has the nicest colour shorts, or whichever team seems the nicest. The Goat Race 2020

The Oxford - Cambridge Goat Race. The Spitalfields City Farm Goat Race. The University Goat Race. The Goat Race. Call it what you will, the goating battle between two goats is back. One is called Cambridge, the other Oxford. The race is on, with the pair battling it out around Spitalfields City Farm. It takes place on the same weekend as The Boat Race. Planet Earth II: Live in Concert at The O2

This is going to be spectacular. Get swept up in footage from the remarkable BBC series Planet Earth II, shown in 4k ultra high-definition, as the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra perform the show’s stunning Hans Zimmer-led score live. Hosted by wildlife and natural history TV presenter Liz Bonnin, the matinee and evening performances will transport you all over our big beautiful planet. It’s breathtaking stuff, some of the most dramatic, thought-provoking and inspirational footage ever captured. Get ready for the bit when the iguana has to outrun those racer snakes. London Handel Festival

The annual London Handel Festival is back in March, with a series of concerts, recitals, talks and walks. This year’s event explores the links between Handel and the Hanoverian monarchy, whose patronage Handel benefitted from and to whom much of his music was dedicated. There are guided walks through Handel’s London, concerts at St George’s in Hanover Square, and more. Consider paying a visit to Handel & Hendrix London to learn more about the man and his work. The museum brings together the neighbouring homes of the Baroque composer and Jimi Hendrix, the psychedelic blues adventurer who settled in London for a while back in the 60’s. Nightingale 200: Florence Nightingale Museum

2020 is Florence Nightingale’s bicentenary year, so London’s Florence Nightingale Museum are putting on a wealth of events to mark the occasion. In March, they’re opening a new exhibition entitled Nightingale in 200 Objects, People & Places. The major exhibition looks to go beyond what people already know about the famous wartime nurse and her life, showing her in a new light, as a female icon in her own lifetime, a pioneer in healthcare, a skilled statistician and a leader. To celebrate the bicentenary and exhibition, a Florence Nightingale Barbie will be released on March 8th 2020. Head along to the Florence Nightingale Museum to see the exhibition and purchase a celebratory Barbie souvenir. Entry to the museum is included with The London Pass. St Patrick’s Day

There’s plenty to do in London on St Patrick’s Day, which falls on Tuesday 17th March this year, but with events mainly taking place the weekend before. If you want to see the final games of the Six Nations whilst drinking a Guinness, head to Brigadiers for their Big Guinness Weekender. Or, if you want to have a dance to traditional Irish music whilst drinking a Guinness, head to the Underground Ceilidh at Soho’s Cahoots. If you want to see the St Patrick’s Day Parade whilst drinking a Guinness, head to Trafalgar Square for the London St Patrick’s Day Festival 2020.

St David’s Day

Not to be outdone in the Patron Saint stakes, Wales celebrate theirs on Sunday 1st March this year. And there’s a lot of St David’s Day-adjacent celebrating to be done in London too this year. Check out our blog devoted to St David’s Day in London HERE.

International Women’s Day

Celebrate women and girls, and join the push for equality this International Women’s Day, falling on Sunday 8th March this year. Talks, lectures, workshops, performances and more will be taking place across London in the lead up and in the days that follow. So take a look at the full line up HERE. An event we’re particularly excited about is the WOW London: Women of the World festival, taking place at the Southbank Centre. The two day event features talks from, among others, Naomi Wolf, Sandi Toksvig and Emma Dabiri, as well as a number of workshops, speed mentoring sessions and a market promote women-led businesses and causes. Royal Storytime: World Book Day Events at Windsor Castle

Take the kids for a storytime fit for a king/queen/prince/princess/court jester at Windsor Castle. Storyteller Olivia Armstrong weaves a tale that brings together some of the most treasured children’s books in the Royal Library. There’ll be a chance to create a personalised bookmark to take home with you as a memento of your visit. Sessions take place at 11.30, 13.30 and 14.30, every Saturday from 7th March. What To Do in London in March 2020: Bars and Restaurants

The Yard by Kelis and Deliveroo

Kelis is making milkshakes at The Yard. It seems like this should have happened quite a while ago. But, somehow, this idea is only getting an outing for the first time in 2020. Opening the day after her sold out show at The Roundhouse, the pop up is at Iron Bloom, Shoreditch on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March. Delivery is available through Deliveroo on the Thursday. Go on Wednesday and there’s a good chance you’ll see the singer/cookbook writer there mixing up your shake. Expect a queue. Kelis has forewarned us there’ll be lots of boys there. Angie Mar at New St Grill

New St Grill are inviting acclaimed NYC chef Angie Mar to take over their kitchen for a few days in March. She’s meat-obsessed, known for her daring and bravado-driven dishes and she's revolutionised New York’s historic Beatrice Inn steakhouse. Bar El Rincón at Vanishers Yard

The Camino restaurant group continue their mission to transform Kings Cross’s Vanisher’s Yard into a Little Spain with their new tapas bar, Bar El Rincón. The 35-seater champions sustainability, with wines from Borough Wines and will be around for a year from 4th March 2020. From 4th March 2020. The Regent Quarter, Vanisher’s Yard, London N1 9FD

Jessie Ware x Yard Sale Pizza

BRIT Award and Mercury Music Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Jessie Ware is teaming up with Yard Sale to create a special pizza. The musician is the presenter of the hugely successful Table Manners podcast, which she hosts with her mum, and is about to bring out her first cookbook. Because of this foodie background, we've got high hopes for this venture. Her pizza, the Friday Night Full House, features Jewish comfort food staples, including beef brisket, smashed latkes and cola braised onions, topped off with fresh dill pickles. And it’ll be available at all Yard Sale Pizza shops for a month from 3rd March. 3rd March - 3rd April 2020. All Yard Sale Pizza locations across London.
