What you'll do

Battersea Power Station is an iconic London landmark, carefully reimagined for the modern day.

A working coal power station until it ceased production in 1983, it’s now an important cultural landmark. In the exhibition, learn how it was built and its redevelopment. Then, ascend to the top and enjoy dazzling panoramic views of the capital.

Your journey begins in the beautiful Art Deco Turbine Hall A at The Exhibition. See the office of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, Battersea Power Station’s original architect, with its historic photos, blueprints and artefact replicas.

The Building Battersea interactive wall uses illustrations to bring the construction of the power station to life. There’s even a working model of the power station, where you can bring coal from the Thames to generate power.

Next, it’s time for your ascent to The Chimney Lift. The adventure begins in the Switch room, where you’ll see a 360-degree film that shows Battersea Power Station through the decades and the different interpretations for its revitalisation as an exciting London riverside neighbourhood.

In The Chimney Lift, it’s onwards and upwards towards the sky. Constellations of light guide the way to the viewpoint, 109 metres above the ground. You’ll be able to see plenty of major London landmarks and get a unique bird’s eye view of the Power Station itself.

The Chimney Lift at Battersea Power Station is a great educational visit for the whole family. Once you’re back in the exhibition area, why not battle it out and test your newfound knowledge in the touchscreen quiz table?

Touchpoints activate sound and movement and show how the six million bricks that make up the Power Station were laid – and still stand today.
