From daring selfies to dramatic glass-floor shots, Tower Bridge is packed with places to snap the kind of pics that’ll make your mates say “Wait, where is that?”
I went on a photo mission across this iconic London landmark and discovered it’s not just a bridge – it’s basically a catwalk, a photo studio, and a front-row seat to the Thames, all rolled into one. So, grab your phone (and maybe some nerves of steel), because here are my favourite must-capture moments from inside Tower Bridge.
1. The ultimate shoe selfie on the glass walkway
If you only take one photo at Tower Bridge, make it this one. The glass walkways are suspended 42 metres above the River Thames and make the perfect backdrop for a dramatic downward shoe selfie (bonus points if your socks are fun).
I even saw people lie flat on the glass to get a full-body shot – yes, I did it too. Yes, it was terrifying. Yes, it was worth it.
2. The mirror trick shot
At the end of the walkways, you’ll spot angled mirrors above your head – perfect for a cheeky snap. Position yourself just right and you can get a cool double image of your reflection and the view beneath your feet.
It’s part science, part sorcery, and very Instagrammable.
3. Landmark spotting through the slidey windows
In the high-level walkways, you’ll find little sliding windows (ideal if your lens hates reflections). Peek through for a framed shot of The Shard, St Paul’s, or even the Tower of London.
It’s a perfect photo frame, just for London’s skyline. No filter needed (weather depending, sorry).
4. River life from above: boats, barges and bridges
One of my favourite photos? A perfectly timed snap of a boat gliding under the bridge, seen from directly above. It feels a bit like being a spy. Or a seagull. Either way, it’s a unique top-down Thames shot you literally can’t get anywhere else.
Bonus points if you get someone waving back up at you!
5. Step into history with a dress-up pic
In the Engine Rooms below, you’ll find Victorian-style costumes you can try on – cue the impromptu photoshoot.
Whether you go full steampunk engineer or opt for a jaunty flat cap, it’s a fun, silly and surprisingly flattering way to add a little historic flair to your feed.
6. The lift-the-bridge live-action moment (if you’re lucky)
Check the bridge lift schedule before you visit – if you time it right, you can get a shot of the bascules rising while you’re above them. It’s rare, but when it happens, it’s pure London magic.
Your photo will have movement, history and most importantly, epic bragging rights.
7. The arty architecture angle
Inside the towers and walkways, don’t forget to look up. The criss-crossed steel girders and gothic details make for some seriously striking architectural shots.
I had a whole folder of “accidental art” just from aiming my camera upwards, or out towards the other side of the walkway.
Pro tips for your Tower Bridge photo session:
Go early or late to avoid too many people in your shot (and to lie on the glass in peace).
Wear bright colours – they pop brilliantly against the bridge’s steely grey and blue tones.
Don’t forget portrait mode. The lighting inside the towers is surprisingly good for selfies.
So next time you're crossing Tower Bridge, don’t just walk across it – work it. There’s a reason this spot has starred in so many movies, TV shows, and now… your camera roll.
